Tempe is a city located in Maricopa County, just east of the city of Phoenix, Arizona. The Census Bureau reported a 2019 population of 195,805 people. Tempe is located in the East Valley section of metropolitan Phoenix. It is bordered by Phoenix and Guadalupe on the west.
The city of Scottsdale and the Salt River Pima–Maricopa Indian Community make up the northern border. The city of, Chandler is to the south and Mesa on the east. Tempe is also best known as the main campus of Arizona State University.
